Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Anxiety & Stress

HOW WE HELP

When you feel like you're going in circles with a problem, a difficult person or something that you can't stop worrying about, cognitive therapy can help you find the relief you need.

  • In Person 50-minute sessions with Dr. Korol. Dr. Korol is pleased to see you in person in our office at 104-2786 West 16th Avenue in Vancouver, BC. Please arrive just before your session starts and Dr. Korol will come to unlock the door when it is time to start your appointment. If you arrive early, there is a bench in the lobby of the building and Dr. Korol will be happy to come out and find you when it’s time to begin.

  • Individual 50-minute telephone or video therapy sessions. In order to receive this service, you must be a resident of British Columbia (the Province where we are all licensed to practice), Alberta (where Dr. Korol and Dr. Cannon are registered as well) or Saskatchewan (where Dr. Cannon is also registered). Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick all allow psychologists registered in other Canadian provinces to provide telehealth. Residents of Yukon can also schedule an appointment as there is no legislation governing the practice of Psychology there. However, Yukon is working on that and it might change in the near future- we’ll keep you posted.

  • You must also have a private space where you can have your session without interruption and be comfortable enough with the technology from your location. Telephone sessions are a good back up if your wifi goes down or if your Internet connection is less reliable. Please call the office at 604-332-4884 for more info about setting up distance sessions and to see if they might be right for you.

  • ADHD Assessments: An ADHD assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to identify and understand the presence of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in individuals of all ages. Through a series of interviews, questionnaires, observations, and cognitive tests, our experienced professionals gather valuable information about the individual's attention span, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and executive functioning skills. The assessment process aims to provide a clear diagnosis, helping individuals and their families gain a deeper understanding of their strengths and challenges. With this knowledge, we can develop personalized strategies and interventions to support academic, work, and personal success. Our ADHD assessment services offer a pathway towards improved self-awareness, effective coping mechanisms, and a better quality of life. Adult ADHD assessments can often be completed in 1-2 sessions. Child ADHD assessments vary depending on the age of the child and the severity of symptoms. A full psychoeducational assessment is not necessarily required, but often preferred with younger children to rule out other possible causes of the symptoms you are noticing in your child.

  • Psychoeducational Assessments: A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation process that aims to gain a deeper understanding of an individual's cognitive strengths and weaknesses, as well as their academic and emotional functioning. This assessment is often conducted by a registered psychologist or educational specialist who specializes in diagnosing and addressing learning difficulties.

  • Assessments range in cost between $3700-5000. You will be charged after each interview and testing session and you may be able to submit your receipts for reimbursement to your extended health plan if you have one from work. The remaining balance (for the record review, teacher interviews, test scoring and report writing) will be charged before the report is released to you. Once you have a copy of the draft report, you will have 4 weeks to request minor edits of the report for free - in case something was missed or needs to be emphasized for the school. After that, edit requests will charged at the prorated rate of $300 per hour.

During the assessment, we will use a variety of standardized tests and assessment tools to gather information about cognitive abilities, academic achievement, attention, memory, executive functioning, and social-emotional well-being. The process typically involves multiple steps, which may include:

    1. Initial Interview: The assessment process usually begins with an initial interview, where the professional gathers information about the individual's developmental history, academic performance, and any specific concerns or challenges they may be facing.

    2. Testing Sessions: The individual will then undergo several testing sessions, which can take place over several hours or multiple days. These sessions may involve various types of tests, including intelligence tests, academic achievement tests, attention and concentration measures, memory assessments, and assessments of executive functioning skills.

    3. Behavioral Observations: In addition to formal testing, the professional may also gather information through behavioral observations. This can provide insights into attention span, task persistence, motivation, and emotional well-being.

    4. Review of Records: We will review relevant records, such as educational reports, previous assessments, and medical documentation, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the academic history and any existing diagnoses or conditions.

    5. Data Analysis and Report Writing: Once the assessment is complete, we will analyze the gathered data, interpret the findings, and prepare a detailed report. This report will outline the cognitive profile, academic strengths and weaknesses, attention and executive functioning abilities, and any potential learning difficulties that may be present. It may also include recommendations for intervention strategies, accommodations, and support services.
